Talk from Ven. Kusala, Meditation, & an Overnight Sit-A-Thon to Raise Money for Buddhist Global Relief

Friday, November 4, 2011 starting at 5:00 pm at UWEST

UWest invites our students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and neighbors to join us on November 4 for the first annual Mindfulness Event. We will start with dinner shared among a wide variety of Buddhists and non-Buddhists from every background, many countries and traditions. Then join us for a talk from Venerable Kusala, an American monk in the Vietnamese tradition, and founder ofUrban Dharma, which is active here in Los Angeles. After the talk, stay for meditation. Evening meditation will last until 9:00 pm, followed by a break, and overnight meditation from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am (bring sleeping bags!). The meditation is part of a Sit-A-Thon to raise money for Buddhist Global Relief, helping educate girls in Sri Lanka.

Go to the UWSA website and click on the ‘Meditation’ tab in the top, left for more information. Please register if you intend to join us. We have capped this event at 100 people. If you are not a UWest student, we are asking for $5 to pay for dinner. We are also asking for donations to help support this event, thank our guest speaker, and support the UWest Contemplative Council (which organized this and hopefully future activities).
